Troubleshooting Instagram connection and posting issues

Most Instagram connection and posting problems clear up by refreshing the connection. Try that first, then work through the specific errors below.

Quick fix: refresh the connection

Open Connections and click Refresh Instagram. This re-establishes the link and resolves most posting failures.

After a password change

Changing your Facebook or Instagram password breaks the existing connection. Reconnect with Refresh Instagram rather than disconnecting — disconnecting can leave scheduled posts orphaned so they fail to publish.

If a scheduled post was already tied to a disconnected account, open that post's card and re-associate it with the reconnected account so it goes out.

Video upload issues

  1. Open Connections.
  2. Click Refresh Instagram.
  3. Under "Edit previous settings" on the Meta reconnect screen, confirm the correct accounts, Pages, and businesses are selected.

Failed video posts from compression

Retrying a failed video post won't help, because the retry re-sends the original, un-optimized file. Recreate the post and re-upload the video so it's processed and compressed to Instagram's standards.

Common error messages

"Request failed with status code 400"

Open Connections and click Refresh Instagram.

"400 Session Invalid"

This is a session issue on Instagram's side. You have two options:

  • Wait about 12 hours and try again, or
  • Connect your Instagram account to a Facebook Page, then use the Facebook login for the Instagram connection.

"(#10) Application does not have permission for this action"

This means Klaas is missing permission on one or more of your businesses:

  1. Open Connections and click Refresh Instagram.
  2. When the Facebook permissions window appears, click Edit previous settings.
  3. Check the box for every business you manage, not just one.

Granting only a single business can revoke permissions for the others and make their posts fail.

OAuthException code 2

The message "IG Error (OAuthException, code 2): An unexpected error has occurred" points to a temporary authentication issue on Meta's backend. Refresh the connection and try again.

"Already connected" or "Unsupported get request"

  1. Remove Klaas's authorization from your Instagram account at the Instagram website permissions page.
  2. Reconnect from Connections.

If "Unsupported get request" persists, it may be a video codec issue.

Instagram account requirements

Your Instagram account must be a Creator or Business account linked to a Facebook Business Page.

Alternative: connect through Facebook

If a direct Instagram connection fails:

  1. Link your Instagram account to your Facebook Page.
  2. Use the Facebook connection option in Klaas.
  3. This often works when the direct Instagram connection doesn't.

When in doubt, refresh the Instagram connection in Connections before trying anything else — it resolves the majority of these issues.
