YouTube upload error: insufficient permissions

If posting to YouTube fails with an "insufficient permissions" message, your connection is missing the upload scope. Reconnecting the account fixes it.

What's happening

You see an error when posting to YouTube that says "insufficient permissions" or "Request had insufficient authentication scopes."

Why this happens

YouTube requires specific permissions to upload videos. If your YouTube account was connected before upload support existed, or if permissions changed on YouTube's side, your stored access token won't include the upload scope.

How to fix it

Disconnect and reconnect the account to grant the right permissions:

  1. While signed in to the Google account linked to the affected YouTube channel, open your Google connections page and revoke access for Klaas.
  2. Open Connections and find the YouTube account that's failing.
  3. Disconnect it. Note that this removes the account from any scheduled posts that use it.
  4. Click "Add account" and choose YouTube Channel.
  5. Approve all requested permissions, especially:
    • Upload videos to YouTube
    • Manage your YouTube videos
    • View your YouTube account

Good to know

  • You will lose any scheduled posts tied to the account when you fully disconnect and reconnect.
  • The process takes a couple of minutes.
  • Make sure you're signed in to the correct YouTube/Google account before reconnecting.
